Thanks Emily, though you don't need to marry a guy that knows stuff, Id be willing to bet you could do it yourself! The trick is starting small, like changing the oil, or even just learning to jack a car up correctly.

Jay: great points, I have generally used WD40 to loosen things up, but PB Blaster is definitely a better choice if you have some around. About the leverage, the thing I didnt mention was the bolt that took an hour to get off. Instead of putting maximum pressure on, sometimes its better to spray the bolt, let it sit, and find a way to get some sub maximal pressure on there. (I propped a rubber mallet against it and let it sit for about 20 mins).

About that one stuck bolt (only one?)...PB B'laster. It stinks to high heaven, but it's a penetrating lube, and unlike WD40, doesn't evaporate over time. I've actually used it to free up the cylinder in a siezed small engine. Spray, go have a beer, and then try again. And be careful of too much leverage on a stuck bolt, if you break off the head, it's going to mean a lot more work.

Oh man, I wish I had enough knowledge to be able to diagnose a car problem myself! I really wish I could save money because I always feel like I'm being scammed, but I just don't know anywhere near enough about vehicles to be able to figure out what is wrong let alone how to fix it. Oy vey. I need to marry someone who knows as much as you do!
