I have a funny trick that I like to use: I like to go to public places that have cooling. Its free except for transportation and usually you can find something fun to do

I have no problem with heat expect for when I go to sleep. Its hard for me to fall asleep if I am hot, so I put my sheet in the freezer and pull it out right before I go to bed. Cools me right down and I drift off quickly. Weird I know.

HA... Beer for A/C. I like the idea.

A whole house fan is also a great way to cool the house quickly in the evening and morning before the day gets too hot. If you can seal up your house pretty well during the hot summer months and keep that cool night/morning air in, you might be able to get away with not using A/C or only using it for a few hours until it cools off again.

A dehumidifier can also help if you are in a place (like me) where the weather is not only super hot in the summer but humid too.
