I'm sorry that happened to you, but so glad a nice person returned it! Losing your wallet is a terrible experience. You had some good pointers about what to do after, but don't forget about the importance of things you can do beforehand to prevent catastrophe. One is to NEVER carry your Social Security card in your wallet -- keep it at home somewhere safe. Second is if you have a card that has your Social on it, such as a health insurance card, xerox the card, black-out the last four digits of the social, and keep that copy in your wallet instead of the original. You should also keep xeroxed copies of the front and back of all your credit cards on file at home, so if they go missing, you have the account numbers and customer service numbers handy. Last, sit down and make a list of every card in your wallet -- driver's license, health insurance, Costco membership, AAA, Blockbuster, gym, etc. That way if you lose your wallet, you have a ready list of all the cards that need to be replaced. I just did a story on this a few months ago so the ideas are still fresh in my head :)
